West Ham are at it again as a low ball bid £10m short of the asking price is rejected by Ajax for Edson Alvarez.
West Ham have been heavily linked with a move for Ajax defensive midfielder Edson Alvarez in the summer transfer window.
Speculation that the Hammers could bring the Mexican to the London Stadium was rife when Declan Rice was on the verge of joining Arsenal.
But, as fans know only too well, nothing has come of that to date with West Ham yet to sign a single player thus far.
This weekend Fabrizio Romano claimed that could be about to change.
The Italian transfer reporter exclusively brought news that West Ham have agreed personal terms with Ajax midfield destroyer Alvarez.

But as reported on Hammers News, fans have been warned not to get too carried away about signing Alvarez just yet.
Because while the Hammers are ‘hopeful’ of a deal, a board confidant warned Ajax are also currently in talks with Borussia Dortmund and other clubs.
With that in mind – and the desperate need for top quality reinforcements – supporters could be forgiven for thinking West Ham’s transfer bigwigs would meet Ajax’s asking price for the 25-year-old defensive midfield star.
But alas no.
West Ham are at it again as a low ball bid £10m short of the asking price is rejected by Ajax for Alvarez.
That’s according to a new report from 90min today.
Massive gamble from Hammers hierarchy given Ajax are in talks with rival clubs for the Mexican star
The site claims sources have told them West Ham have seen a bid of £25.9m rejected by the Dutch club. That’s despite reports all summer stating they want at least £35-40m.
It comes a week after a journalist revealed agents had told him West Ham are showing themselves up in the transfer market by making derisory opening bids for players which have no chance of being accepted.
That is a massive gamble from West Ham given Ajax are still in talks with other clubs over a deal for Alvarez.
The good news is the low ball bid does not seem to have shut down communication over a deal because discussions are reportedly continuing between West Ham and the Amsterdam club’s hierarchy.
“West Ham United are locked in talks with Ajax over a deal for Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez, 90min understands,” the report states.
“West Ham have made an initial offer £25.9m for Alvarez.
“Although that isn’t considered enough by Ajax, who are seeking just over £30m, talks have continued and are at an advanced stage.”
