Are West Ham United the mystery Premier League club that’s just bid £43m for prodigal Spain star Ansu Fati?
West Ham came incredibly close to signing Barcelona’s teenage sensation Ansu Fati in the summer of 2019.
Four years on the Hammers may well be trying their luck again in this summer transfer window.
According to Bleacher Report and the likes of The Daily Mail, West Ham had an agreement in place with the player and his family but the move for the then 17-year-old was scuppered because of issues with his Spanish passport.
Mundo Deportivo also reported on West Ham’s audacious secret bid to sign the teenager.
The report claimed “West Ham officials held talks with Fati’s family members”.
And Barcelona were so concerned about losing him to West Ham, they quickly inserted a huge £88.7million release clause into a hastily arranged three contract which an additional two year option.

Fati remained at the Camp Nou, though, where he was hailed the natural heir to Lionel Messi.

Forward Fati reportedly open to leaving Barca for ‘interesting’ offer
And Football Espana also states the Barcelona forward is open to leaving the club for an ‘interesting’ offer.
The only details given are that an offer of £43m has come from an unnamed Prem club who are not in the Champions League.
Given the background between West Ham and Fati many have been left wondering whether the offer could be from the Hammers.
Especially with new technical director Tim Steidten targeting young exciting players across Europe.
However it should also be noted that there are three sizeable Premier League clubs who are also ‘not in the Champions League’.
Namely Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham.
It might seem highly unlikely but with Gianluca Scamacca having been sold to Atalanta and Michail Antonio also expected to leave, West Ham are on the hunt for a new striker.
We can but dream.
