No smoke without fire fears linger as West Ham star Lucas Paqueta is linked with a move to Man City after recently changing agents.
Having Lucas Paqueta has softened the blow of a life without Declan Rice at West Ham but Manchester City might have other ideas.
West Ham fans were extremely concerned when shock rumours of a £70m bid from Newcastle for their Brazilian magnifico emerged at the start of the summer transfer window.
Especially as it came at the same time Paqueta suddenly changed agents, leaving the representatives who brokered his move to West Ham.
There was then talk of interest in West Ham’s new star player from mega rich PSG too.
At the time it was claimed by a Hammers insider that ‘there are worries Paqueta may be looking for a West Ham exit’ with his actions.

Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg, who has strong sources inside West Ham, recently claimed several players want out at the club. That further added to the anxiety among fans over Paqueta.
And so too will reports overnight that Man City want to sign him in – rather conspicuously – a £70m deal. A rather random figure that seems to have been attached to all three rounds of speculation surrounding his potential departure.
No smoke without fire fears burn as West Ham star Paqueta is linked with Man City move after changing agents.
Man City boss Pep Guardiola recently suggested that he was not done in the transfer market after the signing of Josko Gvaridol.
Tuttomercatoweb reported last night that Manchester City were ready to offer £70 million for West Ham star Paqueta. It comes as the Premier League champions look to replace Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan.
Brazilian outlet GE Globo have gone one step further, claiming Man City have actually made that offer to the Hammers and are awaiting a response.
West Ham fans are starting to feel there may be substance to the persistent Paqueta rumours.
That’s despite Paqueta dropping a big hint over his West Ham future by changing from the number 11 to the iconic number 10 shirt.
And appearing in the club’s announcement videos for the new away kit.
Hammers fans have been threatening a backlash should Paqueta be sold. But if the change of agents was a move to start brokering a departure then West Ham’s hands may be tied if they end up with an unhappy player in the dressing room.
At the start of the month Paqueta labelled a journalist’s claim he is unhappy at West Ham as ‘fake news’.
West Ham will be hoping the new Manchester City links are too.
