Tom Brady met with the Birmingham City soccer team in the locker room for the first time before recording a 1-0 win over Leeds United with a 90th minute penalty on Saturday.
Brady, who announced he had become a minority investor in the second-tier English team last week on his 46th birthday, flew to England to watch his team play its first home game of the new season this weekend.
And he seemed to be a good luck omen, with Lukas Jutkiewicz scoring a penalty in the last minute of the game to seal a win in front of Brady at St Andrew’s stadium.
Brady spoke after the game of his excitement at being in England but it was the Birmingham coach John Eustace who revealed just how far the seven-time Super Bowl winner’s influence is already stretching.
‘The owners came into the dressing room just as I was coming out and congratulated the lads,’ Blues boss Eustace said. ‘It’s great to see Tom Brady in there as well. Tom spoke to the group before our meeting today, so that is great to have one of the most famous sporting people in the world come down and chat to the group.

‘They were all very excited to listen to him and he gave us some real good words of advice.
‘I think you can see today his presence at the club (is a benefit), the vision that he’s got for the football club is amazing.
‘He wants this football club to be a world brand, he wants this Birmingham City family now all over the world, which is what we all want.’
Brady himself spoke to the English soccer media after the game about how he sees the future of the Birmingham team.
‘It was a great day,’ said Brady, to ITV Football. ‘Obviously winning the game but seeing the experience of the fans and to turn out for this home game and see all the renovations that Tom [Wagner – Birmingham chairman] and his team have put together has put together and done, it’s been very exciting.
‘Things have happened kind of fast and furious but it’s been a great experience today. And hopefully it’s the start of a very long-term meaningful impact to this community and sports fans around the world.’
He continued: ‘For me I’m a fan of sports, I’ve been playing sports since I was a kid and I’ve been a big fan of your version of football for a long period of time too.
‘It’s a global sport, I’ve enjoyed following it over a long period of time. Had family involved in it over a long period of time so when Tom [Wagner] presented me with the opportunity it was a no brainer for me.’

Wagner also went on to mention that Brady’s involvement in the team is far more meaningful than just a publicity stunt to add a high-profile celebrity to ownership.
‘Tom is actively engaged in the operations on the sporting side of the team, he’s gonna play a meaningful role. And the other fans of championship teams probably wish that it was a publicity stunt,’ said Wagner.
‘Unfortunately for them it’s much more than that. I think others will adopt a lot more of what Tom [Brady] has done and proven to be successful in American football and I think this is a great platform for Tom getting his message out.’
Brady celebrated by posting ‘touchdown’ with a picture of Jutkiewicz celebrating the winning goal with his arms in the air as if to signal a touchdown on the grid iron.
Before the game, Brady visited fans in a local pub before kickoff to greet some of the fans.
‘I haven’t been to a pub in a very, very long time,’ Brady joked to the BBC. ‘If I spent a lot of nights in the pub I wouldn’t have been a great player! But to have that experience was very memorable.’
He announced his surprise involvement last week and admitted he has a lot to learn about the ‘other football’ but is clearly taking his new commitments seriously,
