Al Nassr make a bid for Tottenham target Aymeric Laporte
According to the Athletic reporter David Ornstein, the Saudi club Al Nassr has made a bid for talented Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte, a player who Tottenham Hotspur also want.
Spurs have been linked with a move for the Manchester City man throughout the summer but a move has not materialised. The defending champions are said to be demanding £ 25 million for the player.
Laporte is a talented footballer who was once a cornerpiece in Pep Guardiola’s setup at Manchester City. However, following an ACL injury that he suffered, the Spanish tactician hasn’t really been the same.
The Manchester-based club signed Josko Gvardiol this summer and this would only see the 29-year-old fall further down the pecking order. The Croatian plays in the exact same position as Laporte and is similar in terms of profile.
Even after shifting to a back-three last season, Laporte still could not get game time under Guardiola. The likes of Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, John Stones, Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji were all ahead of him in the pecking order and Gvardiol has also joined the list.
Al Nassr have been looking to sign a centre-back for some time now and have made an offer to Manchester City, which the club have accepted. It is now up to the player to choose whether or not to go to Saudi.
Tottenham on their part have signed Micky van de Ven but they still need at least one more centre-back. Laporte would perfectly fit the kind of style that Ange Postecoglou wants to play here.
However, if Pep Guardiola doesn’t trust a player, there must be some reason behind it. It remains to be seen if the North London club move for the Spaniard now to try and intercept the Al Nassr deal.
