Liverpool signed Cody Gakpo during the January transfer window, and he has proven to be an impressive addition to the squad.
Although he initially made a name for himself as a second striker at PSV Eindhoven, he has taken on the role of a centre-forward under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
The Dutch international has performed exceptionally well in this new position and recently discussed the adjustments and challenges of playing as a striker.
In an interview with Voetbal International (as reported by Soccer News), Gakpo expressed his enjoyment at Liverpool and his desire to improve with more experience.
He also mentioned that Klopp sees him as an attacker and values his versatility to play in various positions. The striker said:
“In the beginning it always takes some getting used to when you are in a different position, but then it is also important to pick it up quickly and show that I am versatile as a player.”
“You just want to play and be of value, it doesn’t matter where. The trainer sees me as an attacker, but I can also bring those attacking impulses from midfield. That’s the reason I also make minutes there.”

With further experience and coaching, he has the potential to evolve into a world-class player for Liverpool.
The Dutch star possesses the physical and technical attributes to potentially serve as a long-term replacement for Roberto Firmino, who played a similar role and had a significant impact at the club.

Notably, Gakpo’s impressive performances have even kept out a natural centre forward like Darwin Nunez from the starting lineup.
Since his arrival, the Uruguayan international has not been a regular starter for Liverpool. Liverpool have been pleased with Gakpo’s performances since his January signing and intends to unlock his full potential in the upcoming seasons.
The striker’s ability to play in various positions at a high level provides Klopp with the flexibility to rotate the squad and keep players fresh.
