Brazilian legend has launched an extraordinary attack on Carlo Ancelotti, with the Real Madrid boss linked with assuming command of the Selecao next summer.
The Italian has been at Real Madrid since leaving Everton back in 2021, and has since taken Los Blancos to a Champions League, LaLiga, Copa Del Rey, Spanish Super Cup, Club World Cup and UEFA Supercup.
However, there is uncertainty over his future at the Santiago Bernabeu, with his deal up at the end of the season, and seemingly little suggestion that he will stay on for another season.
Given his stature as arguably the best manager in the world, Ancelotti is not thought to be short of options, but is most closely linked with the Brazilian national team – currently in the interim care of Fernando Deniz.
Yet Romario – a World Cup winning hero with Brazil in 1994 – wasted little time in making his opinion on who should lead the team known.
Carlo Ancelotti has come in for a surprisingly scathing review from Brazil legend Romario

‘Actually, here’s the thing, first I want to congratulate Ednaldo [Rodrigues], who is president of the CBF (Brazilian FA), he chose Diniz well. He’s the best coach we’ve got,’ Romario told Brazilian outlet O Globo.
‘He [Diniz] doesn’t have time to do with the national team what he does at club level, which is his forte, training, getting these players together, he does what he can. He’s drawn and lost the last two games, nobody always wins.
‘But I can say that, in my opinion, in my humble opinion, the Brazilian national team is in great hands with Diniz. F*** Ancelotti. I want him [Diniz] until the end.’
Ancelotti’s ability is hard to argue with – he is the most decorated manager in Champions League history, and is the only male manager to have won all five of the top domestic leagues in Europe.
There is next to nothing that Ancelotti has not acheived in the club game, having also lifted the Champions League as a player with AC Milan, with the national frontier as yet unexplored.
Diniz meanwhile has held 18 posts in 14 years of his managerial career, and at 49 has now been given the honour of leading his country while also managing Brazilian side Fluminense.
Although he has been impressing with the Tricolor Diniz has found the transition a difficult one, with Brazil currently sat outside the CONMEBOL qualification spots.
