Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has snapped back to one question from the embargoed section of yesterday’s press conference.
As always, there will be a late section of the press conference released at 10pm on the day of the earlier press conference, and this is where the reporters really start to try and dig for some ‘wow’ content.
Chelsea play against Manchester United this evening, so that was the main subject of the conference, but that doesn’t mean this is all they speak about.
Chelsea’s opposing manager tonight, Erik ten Hag, has recently revealed that the culture and standards at Manchester United had fallen when he walked through the door (reported by London World), but Pochettino says Chelsea is the opposite as he shut down the comparisons.
“No, no, no. It’s different,” Pochettino replied. “We don’t want to change the culture. We want to build something, a project.
“The culture of Chelsea is about winning. How we are going to change a culture in a club that is about winning? No, no, no. If you ask me here if I want to change the culture here? No. We are here to try to build a project together with the new owners, the sporting director, and the club, altogether.
“It’s a project. It’s not a culture. The culture that is here is about to win and now we need to be at this level. Is it a different project from the past? Of course. It’s different. A different way to approach things? Of course. Because it’s a different view. To be at the same level in the past, but the culture of Chelsea is about to win.”
It’s good to hear things like this but it also keeps the pressure on him a little. Many fans are understanding of the project we are in right now but share the same opinion that Chelsea is about winning. But Chelsea is also a completely different club now than it was under Roman Abramovich.
