Chelsea were utterly terrible tonight, lacking in the most simple coherence in either attack or defence, and most criminally of all, looking totally demotivated for most of the game.
This team of frightened strangers passed the ball and the blame around, unable to create against a wide-open and heavily depleted Man U team who were in total collapse until they played us.
The players are so disinterested that it’s hard to know whether to blame them or Mauricio Pochettino, whose job it is to get them up for it.
At times this season it’s felt like there’s light at the end of the tunnel, and the hope of a new regime has sustained optimism for a long time now.
But eventually there’s going to be a reckoning with the fact that this team is not just underperforming compared to the expectations of top teams in the league, it’s looking worse than the teams around us in mid table.
The players aren’t getting it right, the manager isn’t getting it right, the ownership has got everything wrong.
