Ian Maatsen is valued at €20m by Transfermarkt, but Chelsea could have got a lot more for him in the summer.
Instead the left back has rotted on the bench for most of the season, and to make things worse, some fans are annoyed by his positive response to a Sofyan Amrabat Instagram post after Man U’s win on Wednesday.
Just put it this way – those fans are getting frustrated over a couple of thoughtless emojis spilled online are just taking out their frustrations on an easy and undeserving target.
That’s not how you should judge someone in these situations – Maatsen has had a pretty brutal comedown this season, from feeling like he was going to be an important squad member after a good preseason, to barely featuring at all.
He conducts himself perfectly whether or not he’s in the team, and that’s what he should be judged by, not some social media silliness.
