I… really don’t quite know what to say about that match. Tottenham Hotspur started their match against Liverpool at Anfield without any midfield passers, played hard (if ineffective) football for about 15 minutes, conceded relatively early, completely fell apart going down 4-0, and still somehow managed to make things interesting by scoring two second half goals in a 4-2 loss.
The vibes looked murderous for a while, and then they just sort of… came back a little bit, thanks in part due to Oliver Skipp putting in a real performance (and earning a hockey assist, no less) as a substitute left back, Sonny finally serving as a ball outlet, and Richarlison playing out of his skull. Liverpool are a good team and losing at Anfield is no stranger to Spurs. So how do we reconcile that match in context? Should we even try?
Wild. But still not exactly fun. Ange Postecoglou’s substitutions ended up making things somewhat interesting, but it begs the question why he set the team up the way he did, and it’s still Tottenham’s fourth consecutive league loss, the first time that’s happened in 20 years.
It’s time to rate the players.
Rate the players from 1⁄2 to 5 stars. If the player doesn’t deserve a rating due to minutes played, DO NOT RANK. I will round the stars up/down to the nearest half-star for the player ratings later this week.
