Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is expecting an absolute battle with Real Madrid in the Champions League.
“It’ll come down to good form on the day for both teams. The first goal is also important, that punch. It always comes down to little things against a team like Real. Focus will be very high from both sides. Both teams are potent in attack,” said Neuer (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “It’s a semifinal, a knockout game. The goalkeepers are prepare for anything. We as a team are also prepared for it to go 120 minutes or even to penalties.
“It’s tough to single out one player (from Real Madrid). Real had had amazing players throughout their history. They have lots of guys who can make the difference. “You need to stay focused when it’s so emotional in a stadium like this and against a team like this. You need to have trust in yourself. You need to turn external factors into something positive. We’ll try to do that tomorrow. If we perform, then we’re definitely able to reach the final.”
Neuer will be guiding what should be a staunch backline for the Bavarians. The goalkeeper is expecting his defender to put the clamps down on the Real Madrid attacking group.
“It’s important to be on it in terms of body language. The volume inside the stadium plays a part as well. If a player exudes positivity, it’s very important for us. It’s key to have a solid defence. Obviously we’re pleased Matthijs de Ligt is back,” Neuer said.
For Neuer, this game is not about fear or anxiety…it is about a positive mindset.
“I’ve not come here with fear. We’re very confident and know what sort of game we played last week. We know who we’re up against. If you had the chance to beat Real at home, you’ll also have the chance here,” Neuer remarked.
When asked about why Tuchel brought the team out to the pitch, there was a message per Neuer.
”It was about each of us having dreamt of a game like this. The Champions League is the biggest title in club football. We have the chance to get to the final,” Neuer said.
