Bayern Munich may be trudging towards its first Bundesliga title concession in twelve seasons, but the vibes are anything but sullen thanks to the Bavarians’ strong displays in the Champions League.
Bayern followed up an impressive two legs vs. Arsenal FC in the quarters with an equally strong showing against Real Madrid at home in the first leg of the semifinals. There is just starting to be a sense of destiny about this season.
One man who remembers what destiny is like? Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who drew comparisons to 2012, when Bayern played in the Final against Chelsea FC.
“It was massive support and great euphoria. It was a bit reminiscent of the final against Chelsea,” Neuer said after the match in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia. “We had a really big reception when the bus arrived. A big thank you to the fans for the support. Of course we would have liked to win and would have deserved it. Everything is open. We are now looking ahead. It’s good that we have everything in our hands. We want to get to the final at Wembley.”
Oh, and Bayern lost the Bundesliga that season too, to Jürgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund. Could history repeat — with a better finish this time around?
