Erling Haaland may have stolen all of the headlines after scoring four goals for Manchester City in their 5-1 win over Wolves at the weekend but others also caught the eye.
Mateo Kovacic has struggled to hold down a first-team place since arriving from Chelsea last summer but he turned heads whilst playing in midfield on Saturday evening.
The Croatian international did his job well as the holding midfielder but his ability to get out of trouble with his superb ball control also impressed plenty of fans on X:
Honestly the way he played today, I felt relieved about a potential absence for Rodri..
He’s unbelievable 💙💙💙💙💙💙— Ankinimbom Leslie (@hotspot2442) May 4, 2024

So underrated, a ball winner, a carrier, and a passer. Total midfielder

Kovacic is underrated
The 29-year-old doesn’t always get the credit he deserves, mainly because he doesn’t generally provide the goals and assists that others do.
However, over the years, Kovacic has shown that he is extremely gifted on the ball and his full array of skills was on show at the Etihad against Wolves.
City are showing no signs of nerves
After Arsenal went four points clear at the top once again with their victory against Bournemouth earlier in the day, Pep Guardiola‘s men knew they had to respond.
Other teams may have felt the pressure under similar circumstances but these players seemingly have nerves of steel in the title run-in. Putting five past a hard-working Wolves team is no mean feat, and they will have the chance to go top next Saturday when they play a day before the Gunners in the lunchtime kickoff against Fulham. Kovacic may get another start based on his display at the weekend.
