By now, you have probably seen it — Bayern Munich fans have a petition going to keep Thomas Tuchel at the club.
The grassroots movement has grown to more than 10,000 signatures as fans are now fretting letting Tuchel go in favor of hiring alleged leading candidate Ralf Rangnick. Tuchel’s recent run has dulled the pains that have occurred to many over the past year and fans simply want to ride the wave of this current momentum as long as they can:
Bayern fans on X have started a petition, which has so far gathered nearly 10,000 signatures, calling for Thomas Tuchel to stay at the club next season https://t.co/taKI9aKqat

But what does this all mean? Are fans that attached to the coach…or is it something else that is the greater issue? Maybe some fans hate the idea of Rangnick being the choice to lead the club? Maybe some view it as another move that lacks vision and does not seem to fit into any type of long-term plan?
The club certainly hears those voices, but as former NFL coach Buddy Ryan once said, ”If you listen to the fans, you’ll be sitting up there with them” — so, do not get your hopes up for Bayern Munich or Tuchel to change their minds about what happens after the season.
In the end, this petition is not as much an indictment of Bayern Munich’s coaching situation as much as it is about the club’s lack of a general philosophy or strategic direction (Hey, we know someone who just wrote about that!). For too long now, Bayern Munich has been a rudderless ship just letting the drift determine its destination.
Bundesliga? DFB-Pokal? Champions League? For a few years, it just seems like those things are a matter of chance rather than objectives plotted out as part of a greater journey.
Maybe more than just keeping a coach, people are just getting antsy to know where all of this is going and to see the plan for getting there. And for that, fans are right to wonder if there is more than this.

Bavarian Podcast Works: Weekend Warm-up Show Season 3, Episode 42
Bayern Munich fans…the future is now!
Or soon…or maybe a little later…but either way, the club does appear to be well on its way to hiring its next coach — Ralf Rangnick, a name that was not necessarily at the forefront of anyone’s mind just a few weeks ago.
With all of that going on, let’s get to it and discuss what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show:
- Rangnick to Bayern Munich…how are we feeling about that (if it goes down)?
- It is still a little odd that Hansi Flick never made it into serious consideration.
- Is there any truth to the rumors that Rangnick is a short-term solution until Jürgen Klopp (or maybe even Xabi Alonso) becomes available.
- Should fans believe the Frenkie de Jong rumors this time around?
- After the Eintracht Frankfurt game, it is time to switch quickly into “Real Madrid Mode.”
Song of the Week: “Teen Angst” by Cracker
The 90s were a wild time.
So many different kinds of music were converging. Some were coming in, others were on their way, but alt-rock was one of those really exploding and one of the bands who got a lot of airtime was Cracker — a group from Richmond, Virginia, who brought their own unique sound to the scene.
There were many quality tunes from Cracker, but “Teen Angst (What the World Needs Now)” is one that really stuck out to me when I thought about putting them in slot. Enjoy:
An interesting sidenote to Cracker is that its lead singer, David Lowery, also led Camper Von Beethoven, which was known for this gem, “Take the Skinheads Bowling” — DOUBLESHOT FRIDAY!:
A No. 6 incoming?
According to a report from Sport Bild’s Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich will still be looking to bring a player who fits the profile of a defensive midfielder this summer:
The people in charge are in agreement that there’s definitely a need to strengthen in the position of defensive midfield: Martín Zubimendi and Amadou Onana are among the candidates, both of whom would cost high transfer fees. Bayern would be willing to sell one of the current midfielders to raise funds.
Bavarian Podcast Works — Preview Show: Bayern Munich vs. Eintracht Frankfurt
Bayern Munich is back at home to host Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga this weekend. Can the Bavarians stay hot against Die Adler?
With a Champions League semifinal tie against Real Madrid on the horizon, Bayern Munich’s focus will be at the forefront of this match. The Bavarians should be looking to ride the wave of momentum they have built up, but be careful not to look past a pesky Eintracht Frankfurt side.
Here is what we have on tap for episode of the Bavarians Podcast Works — Preview Show:
- A look at the recent league form of both clubs.
- Why Bayern Munich needs to avoid falling into another “trap” and why the last thing this needs is any doubt to seep into it.
- Updates on injured Bayern Munich players.
- A guess at Thomas Tuchel’s potential starting XI.
- A prediction on the match.
Predictions
Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel has interesting lineup decisions to make. Does he rotate heavily to keep his starters fresh? Does he keep his best XI together? Or mix-and-match the players for something in-between?
Whatever Tuchel decides, it is vital that the team stays healthy…and focused. Getting a win heading into the Real Madrid match next week would be enormous. Tuchel — and his team — need to approach this match seriously and not risk a letdown.
- Prediction: Bayern Munich 3-1 Eintracht Frankfurt
Bonus Champions League Prediction
What more can you ask for? Real Madrid will visit the Allianz Arena for a spectacular match-up. We will be covering this match in-depth in the coming days, so I’ll spare you the long-winded take…but if everything stays in its current state in terms of injuries, I’m feeling a thoroughly exciting draw in Germany, which will set the stage for a massive showdown in Spain.
- Prediction: Bayern Munich 2-2 Real Madrid
Other Bundesliga predictions include:
- VfL Bochum 1-2 Hoffenheim
- FC Augsburg 1-0 Werder Bremen
- SC Freiburg 1-0 VfL Wolfsburg
- RB Leipzig 2-2 Borussia Dortmund
- Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 VfB Stuttgart
- Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-0 Union Berlin
- Mainz 05 1-1 FC Köln
- SV Darmstadt 98 1-2 Heidenheim
