Aaron Wan-Bissaka faces an uncertain future at Man United due to current circumstances.
Manchester United’s squad is still nowhere near good enough. Big money has been spent on bang average footballers, by three or four different managers at this point.
Erik ten Hag inherited a bad crop of footballers, though he hasn’t helped with some of his signings, let’s be honest. Players have to be moved on sooner rather than later as the Dutchman looks to trim down the playing squad into one that fits his style.
Among the many problem positions is right-back. Diogo Dalot has been starting of late. He’s blatantly not good enough, while I personally much prefer Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Again, I’m not convinced he’s of the required level.
The Englishman known as ‘The Spider’ now finds himself back in the headlines after falling out of favour. It’s the Manchester Evening News with the story. They state that the 25-year-old United star faces an uncertain future at the club.
Wan-Bissaka is technically out of contract this coming summer, even though United are ‘bound’ to activate a one-year extension clause that’s in his contract.
In terms of a new contract, those talks are said to be at an ‘impasse’. Understandably, the player wants to start more games, while Ten Hag is probably thinking he can get more production from that position by signing a different player.
For what it’s worth, I think Wan-Bissaka has improved under Ten Hag. He’s the best one-on-one defender at the club, while I’d argue his production in the final third is now equal to (or better than) Dalot’s. It’s why I see no reason to keep starting the man from Portugal who is blatantly not good enough. At least Wan-Bissaka has a fighting chance.
