Man United may have been hit with a double defensive injury blow, as they bowed out of the Champions League vs Bayern Munich.
Manchester United’s Champions League fate was sealed last night. The Red Devils will not be playing European football of any kind after the turn of the year. Perhaps it’s a blessing in disguise as games will be minimal, giving the club a chance at forcing their way into the top four.
Once again, it was a poor performance from the boys in Red, who, when they absolutely needed a victory, mustered up just one shot on target. It’s just not good enough. The night was compounded with two early substitutions via injury.
First, Harry Maguire. He went down with a groin problem at around the 35 minute mark. The England international had to be subbed off as he wasn’t moving well at all.
Then, Luke Shaw went down with an apparent hamstring issue. He battled on until half-time, but seemingly, wasn’t feeling well enough to come out for the second period.
Two defensive injuries to arguably United’s two best players back there. That does not bode well ahead of a huge game against Liverpool this weekend…
We know Lisandro Martinez is back in training but he’s still a fair while away from returning, with the back four for the Liverpool game going to look very different. This could be a painful one.
We’re yet to hear official confirmation on the severity of the issues, as Ten Hag was tight-lipped on both problems last night as it was too soon to determine the extent. However, I’d be surprised if either is ready. You wouldn’t want to risk a hamstring tear for Shaw, while I don’t think Maguire’s groin will be ready to go on Sunday…
We could be in for a beating if Liverpool are on top form…
