Amad is now back after injury, with the man from Ivory Coast looking to make his mark.
Manchester United are struggling in the final third. Erik ten Hag is getting little-to-no production from his right-wing spot as things stand.
The main culprit is Antony. For a player who cost £80m+, we have every right to be worried about the Brazilian’s form.
Alejandro Garnacho displayed flashes of class out on that flank against Aston Villa, though it’s clear he’s better from the left-hand side.
Hence, the Old Trafford side need to muster up some production from that wing sooner rather than later. After all, this United side is ranked in the bottom three in terms of Premier League goals scored this season.
This is where Amad comes in…
The young man looked sharp during pre-season before going down with injury. He’d only return to the mix against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The Ivory Coast international came off the substitutes bench and he looked lively, which was encouraging given the fact he’s only just come back from a lengthy layoff.
I don’t think it’s a stretch to suggest that the 21-year-old United youngster could offer the Reds a different dimension upon his return, which shouldn’t be a massive surprise given Amad’s hefty price tag when signed from Atalanta.
A loan move to Sunderland gave us all a glimpse into what Amad can eventually offer. Flair, pace, directness and finishing prowess. The winger is capable of the spectacular, but he’ll also work hard defensively and press from the front.
It does feel like Amad has been around for a fair while now, without really having that chance to showcase his talents for the United first-team. Barring an excellent header against AC Milan in Europe on debut, it has all been rather subdued for the talented winger.
I’d argue Amad will never get a better chance to make a real name for himself at the Theatre of Dreams. Antony’s struggles coupled with a real lack of quality other options out there, it does feel like now or never for the Ivory Coast international.
Sure, it will take Amad some time to get up to full speed following multiple months out, though the early signs are certainly promising. I’d like to think he’ll be fit enough to start against Wigan in the FA Cup next time out, but I’d imagine minutes off the bench is still the most likely option.
Either way, there’s a glimmer of hope being offered in the form of the young man. I am excited to watch him develop and grow over the next six months, as it could be make or break for his Red Devils career.
