Man United have eyes on signing Joshua Kimmich, who could be available on a free transfer this coming summer.
The January transfer window is now open. Whether Manchester United make any signings of note is another question entirely.
Money is tight due to FFP restrictions. The club are struggling to move away from those fringe players who just aren’t performing. Hence, it’s more likely moves are made during the summer transfer window.
The latest interesting rumour comes from AS. They go pretty big with their latest claim, linking United with a move to sign Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich.
United are said to be among the sides at the front of the queue to sign the 28-year-old on a free transfer this summer. Kimmich, the top class midfielder, is yet to put pen on paper in regard to new terms with Bayern, hence, Europe’s elite are now circling. Liverpool are also said to be keen.
There can be no doubt that Kimmich would be an unreal signing if the Old Trafford side could somehow lure the German into the club, single-handedly solving our midfield woes.
However, it’s probably contingent on plenty of things happening. Some of which are out of United’s control. First, Ten Hag would have to lead his side to a spot in the top four as an absolute minimum. Then, it’d be reliant on Kimmich choosing a United side who aren’t on the same level as the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City at the moment. It does feel like a long shot.
The fact that it’s a free transfer also means overinflated wages being paid to Kimmich. This is something United are actively trying to avoid under the new INEOS regime.
