Ange Postecoglou delivered brutal home truths to those connected to Tottenham after becoming incensed by the grappling with how to approach the defeat by Manchester City.
The Australian suggested that Spurs require a major mentality shift if they are to close the gap between themselves and the country’s elite – including City, who are one win away from securing an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title.
Postecoglou appeared to exchange words with a supporter from his technical area during the 2-0 defeat, sealed by two Erling Haaland goals either side of a glaring miss by Heung-min Son.
And the 58-year-old believes the build-up to City’s visit, the rivalry with Arsenal dominating thoughts around the club, has shone a light on the problems he faces as manager.
Incensed by the attitude towards the fixture as some Spurs fans openly said they hoped their own team lost to prevent Arsenal claiming a first title for two decades.

Postecoglou blasted his club for having ‘fairly fragile foundations’ in his post-match press conference
‘The last 48 hours have revealed that the foundations are fairly fragile,’ Postecoglou said. ‘It just means I’ve got to go back to the drawing board with some things. It’s outside (the club), inside, everywhere. It’s been an interesting exercise.’
Tottenham supporters chanted, ‘are you watching Arsenal’ after Haaland’s 51st-minute opener.
‘I’m not interested mate. I just don’t care,’ Postecoglou added. ‘It’s just my observations mate. I’m not going to tell you, because it’s for me.
‘I’m the one who’s got to do it. You can make your own assessments of what’s happened. I probably misread the situation as to what I think is important in your endeavour to become a winning team, but that’s ok. That’s why I’m here.’
Postecoglou declined the invitation to divulge the exact areas he needs to correct moving into a second season in charge and suggested he has misunderstood what fans want.
Asked if his grievances were tied up with the Arsenal rivalry, he said: ‘I’m just not interested mate. Maybe I’m out of step, but I just don’t care, I just want to win.
‘I want to be successful at this football club, it’s why I was brought in. So what other people, how they want to feel, and what their priorities are, are of zero interest to me. I know what’s important to build a winning team, that’s what I need to concentrate on.
‘I can’t dictate what people do. They [the fans] are allowed to express themselves any way they want. But yeah, when we’ve got late winners in games it’s because the crowd’s helped us.
‘I already know what I want to do, it’s just I’ve got to make some adjustments to how I do it.’
