Al-Nassr have entered the race to sign Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson, according to CaughtOffside.com.
The website claims that the Saudi Pro League club are “ready to hold talks” over a deal for the Brazilian international.
Ederson has been tipped to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer, and the news that Stefan Ortega has signed a two-year contract extension has added fuel to the fire that the club’s current No.1 could be on his way out of the club.
Ortega has spoken out in recent months to say that he would only stay if he was given guarantees about game time and some believe the German’s new contract paves the way for Ederson’s departure.
Why are Al-Nassr looking to buy Ederson?
The Saudi club’s current first choice, former Arsenal keeper David Ospina, is expected to be offloaded in the coming weeks and they have identified the City star as his replacement.
If Ederson were to move to the Middle East, he would be joining a star-studded squad that includes former Manchester City player Aymeric Laporte, ex-Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo and ex-Liverpool star Sadio Mane.
Have City set an asking price?
CaughOffside.com say that City want at least €40m (£34m) for Ederson but that figure has been disputed by other reports, who suggest the price tag could be as high as £60m.
A lot will depend on how much competition there is for the 30-year-old’s signature. Al-Nassr are not thought to be the only Saudi team pursuing the shot-stopper, with Al-Ittihad also said to be in the mix.
At the moment, it does appear as if Ederson is heading out of the club but City won’t let him leave unless they receive a bid which is commensurate with the value of the player.
