Manchester City are among the clubs that have registered their interest in Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, according to HITC Football.
The website claims that both “Arsenal and Man City have enquired” about the Brazilian international’s availability.
Liverpool have also made an approach, while Manchester United and Tottenham are keen admirers of Gomes’s ability too.
However, after Wolves sold Max Kilman to West Ham for £40m, the Midlands club are under no pressure to sell any more players this summer.
HITC also say that Gomes himself is in no rush to leave Molineux, which will make signing him even more difficult as Wolves won’t have complaints from the player if they do decide to reject bids for him.
How much would the midfielder cost?
Wolves paid £15m when they signed Gomes from Flamengo at the start of 2023, and it’s likely that they would demand a fee many times that figure from potential suitors now.
When the 23-year-old was linked with United and Arsenal earlier this year, it was reported that his asking price was as high as £60m.
City won’t want to repeat the mistake they made with Nunes
The Premier League champions have good relations with Wolves, having paid £53m for Matheus Nunes last summer, but the Portuguese international has struggled since arriving at the Etihad.
There are reports that the midfielder could be offloaded barely a year after making the switch to Manchester, with teams in Saudi Arabia taking a keen interest in him.
With Gomes set to cost a similar amount, City’s recruitment department would want to be absolutely sure that he is worth the outlay. Based on what we know, though, an offer for the Wolves star looks unlikely at this stage, unless it becomes clear that the player is angling for a transfer.
