Manchester City will sell Julian Alvarez if a club offers to pay €70m (£59m) upfront, according to The Athletic journalist Sam Lee.
The website’s City correspondent says that the Premier League champions would also demand €20m (£16.8m) in add-ons, making the total fee €90m (£75.8m), but the upfront cost may attract interested parties to the negotiating table.
Up until now, Atletico Madrid have been the team pressing the most to sign Alvarez, but Lee believes that the asking price may prevent the La Liga side from stepping up their attempts to sign the striker.
However, other teams could enter the fray, especially with the valuation looking pretty attainable by current standards in the transfer market.
Who could make a move for Alvarez?
Paris Saint-Germain are known to hold an interest in the Argentinian international, having reportedly contacted the forward’s representatives in recent weeks.
The Ligue One side had been prioritising a move for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen but that deal appears to have collapsed, with disagreements on the transfer fee. It could lead to PSG switching their attention back to Alvarez.
Chelsea are also believed to have the 24-year-old on their shortlist of targets but you can’t see City selling him to a direct rival, especially for the price being quoted.
Why is Alvarez looking to leave City?
The striker is said to be unhappy about his game time, despite manager Pep Guardiola starting him in 39 matches last season. The main issue is reportedly the lack of starts in big games.
Alvarez played just 14 minutes in City’s last four Premier League fixtures as they pipped Arsenal to the title. The Argentine also had to settle for a place on the bench in both legs when the Cityzens took on Real Madrid in the quarter-final of the Champions League.
