Pep Guardiola has given an update on the future of Ederson amid uncertainty around whether the goalkeeper will remain a Manchester City player this season.
Ederson has been the subject of interest from the Saudi Pro League, with Al-Ittihad looking the likliest to lure the 30-year-old away from the Etihad.
He played 45 minutes on Tuesday night as the Premier League champions got their pre-season camaign underway with a 4-3 defeat by Celtic, coming off the bench at half-time in place of Stefan Ortega.
That’s given no indication on what the future could hold, however, with the goalkeeper’s next move seemingly still up in the air with the new season less than a month away.
Guardiola has now opened up on whether his No 1 is likely to stay at the club, and he wasn’t too confident of keeping one of his star men on his books.

He has been key to City’s success under Guardiola but could now cause an issue for the club
‘I’d like him to stay but it depends on other clubs,’ Guardiola said, speaking after the Celtic game. ‘I don’t know the situation.
‘There have been no contacts in the last days. It’s a question of training, being with us until the transfer window finishes and we’ll see.’
Interest from the Saudi Pro League in City’s goalkeeper has been intense in recent months, with Al-Nassr initially hopeful of luring the Brazilian away from the Etihad Stadium.
Their offer of £25million fell way below City’s valuation but Al-Ittihad have been given enough encouragement to open dialogue with the Premier League champions.
He is believed to be valued at somewhere nearer £50m and Al-Ittihad are ready to test that resolve for what would be a major coup for the SPL.
Ortega has impressed when deputising for the mainstay in City’s goal since 2017 but losing Ederson would still represent a significant blow and it remains unclear whether the club would look to bring in a replacement stopper.

Ederson has been a key member of the City squad that has enjoyed so much success under Guardiola, having joined the club in 2017 from Benfica.
He has won six Premier League titles since, one of which came in the 2022-23 season when City lifted the Treble, including their first Champions League trophy.
He has also won four League Cup titles, two FA Cups, a Super Cup and the Club World Cup at City.
