Manchester City have decided that they will not make a bid for Bayer Leverkusen wingback Jeremie Frimpong this summer, according to GiveMeSport.
The Premier League champions have opted against pursuing the former Celtic player’s signature as they expect to keep hold of Kyle Walker.
As the England international is now 34 years of age and, with reports that Saudi Pro League clubs were pursuing him, there was a chance that the right-back could depart the Etihad Stadium
However, GiveMeSport claim that the decision has been made to retain Walker, at least for one more season.
Frimpong’s release clause had already expired
The fact that the Cityzens didn’t make a move for the Leverkusen star when he was available for €40m (£34m) did suggest that they were going to keep faith in Walker.
Although talks with Frimpong’s representatives were reportedly held earlier in the summer, nothing advanced any further than that.
Other teams, such as Liverpool and Manchester United, have also been credited with an interest in the Netherlands international but it does appear as if he will be staying in Germany.
Are City looking to sign any other players?
A lot will depend on who leaves the club before the transfer window closes. The likeliest departure is Ederson. The Brazilian is angling for a move to Saudi Arabia but City won’t let him go unless their £50m asking price is met.
If an offer is accepted for Ederson, it’s expected that an understudy for Stefan Ortega will be sought. In recent days it has been suggested that Ajax’s Diant Ramaj has been scouted.
In terms of other positions, fans should keep an eye on Julian Alvarez’s situation. If the Argentinian international does press for a move, a replacement would be needed.
