Tottenham Hotspur starlet Will Lankshear has been really impressive in the pre-season for the upcoming campaign, and his performances have managed to capture the aspirations of the North Londoners.
The academy striker could be an understudy for Dominic Solanke going into the new season, as the Lilywhites conclude the arrival of the England international earlier this week. And John Wenham, owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, believes that the 19-year-old will stay at White Hart Lane past the transfer deadline.
He suggests that it would be wise for Lankshear to stick around the men’s team at N17 next season.
Lankshear impresses in Spurs pre-season and could stay at N17
This comes after the player was part of the squad and was named on the bench for Tottenham’s friendly against Bayern Munich at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium yesterday. And Wenham thinks this indicates a decision taken behind the scenes.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:
“Lankshear has put himself undeniably above Dane Scarlett in the pecking order. He has been named on the bench against Bayern Munich, which means I think he will be sticking around until at least January. That way he can see what minutes he gets in the UEFA Europa League and off the bench in the Premier League. Overall, I think it is in Lankshear’s best interest to stick around and see what opportunities arise this season.”
Lankshear’s rise through Tottenham ranks continues
The Spurs academy star is one of the big potential players coming out of Hotspur Way academy, and Lankshear proved his credentials with a couple of goals in the pre-season for Spurs. Hence, Ange Postecoglou would have high hopes for the youngster for next season and beyond.
While a loan move could aid his development, if he is getting opportunities in the men’s team at White Hart Lane, it would prove far more useful for Lankshear.
The fact that he was named on the bench ahead of Scarlett shows the belief that the club has in Lankshear and how he has climbed the ranks with his performances in the pre-season.
