Tottenham Hotspur, under the leadership of Ange Postecoglou, continue addressing their squad in this summer transfer window before kicking off the 2024/25 campaign next weekend.
Spurs’ latest signing—Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth—proves they have gone the extra mile to strengthen their offensive department after being over-reliant on Son Heung-min and Richarlison for goals. By signing Solanke, they have no way filled the Harry Kane-shaped hold in the squad but will at least have a reliable presence up top from the upcoming season.
While Tottenham continue to scour the market for signings, there could be a couple of outgoings happening from now on and until the end of the transfer window. Creative midfielder Giovani Lo Celso appears a prominent figure expected to leave after the club’s latest decision.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Giovani Lo Celso was not included in Tottenham’s squad for the pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening. He can leave the club in the final weeks of the transfer window amid interest from many clubs across Europe, including Aston Villa and Real Betis.
“Giovani Lo Celso was not part of Tottenham squad today as he can still leave in the final 20 days,” Fabrizio Romano tweeted from his official X account.
“Real Betis and Aston Villa are interested and still keen with more clubs monitoring the situation.”
Spurs signed Lo Celso in the summer of 2019 from Real Betis for a club-record-equaling fee of €60 million but the player has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League, resulting in a roller coaster of loan moves away from the club. The Argentina international, who pockets £70,000 per week at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, is way below the midfield pecking order under Ange Postecoglou and only managed four starts out of 22 Premier League outings this past season.
The future of Lo Celso at Spurs is still to be decided before the transfer window shuts. Having been left out of his side’s final pre-season friendly against Bayern, Lo Celso was given a clear indication in terms of what Tottenham wants him to do in this final month of the window.
The North Londoners are looking to cash in the midfielder as he has walked into the final 12 months of his contract (Transfermarkt), which makes this summer a realistic chance to get a decent fee by parting ways with him. Fortunately, the 2024 Copa America winner has plenty of suitors vying for his signature, as understood via Romano’s tweet.
