Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has been under the limelight off late, all because of his problems off the pitch. The Mali international has courted himself in a corner after a video showing him inhaling the toxic laughing gas was leaked among the general public.
To put it into perspective, possession of laughing gas for recreational purposes has been penalized with a prison sentence in the United Kingdom since 2023.
The £55k-a-week star did release an official statement stating his apologies, saying it “was a severe lack of judgement.”
Spurs star in hot water over off-pitch incident
Following the incident, many speculated how this would have an impact on the former Brighton star and if he will be absent from Ange Postecoglou’s side when they take on Leicester City next week.
A report by Football Insider states that they expect big things from the player this season. The report also states that he is set to play a starring role in the upcoming campaign, as internally at White Hart Lane, he is seen as a perfect midfielder for the Australian gaffer owing to Yves’ high-intensity playing style complemented by his ability to be a rock in front of the defence.
Will there be a short team boomerang for Bissouma?
Bissouma was linked with a potential Spurs exit earlier in the summer window; however, the club ended up trusting in his services going into the new campaign. And the fact that Spurs have lost Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and are on the verge of losing Giovani Lo Celso means that the club will have to stay put with Bissouma for the upcoming season.
The 27-year-old has made a mistake with the laughing gas, but we need to see how the club takes on the news and deals with it internally.
