Nottingham Forest are venturing closer to a deal for Feyenoord star Santiago Gimenez, after Feyenoord rejected the Premier League outfit’s two initial offers for the Mexico international. The forward, who joined the Dutch giants from Cruz Azul in 2022, has 40 goals in 64 Eredivisie games and is valued at around 30 million euros.
It is understood that Forest’s first offer of 20 million euros was rejected, as well the second bid of 22.5 million, but a new package totalling 30 million euros will likely be accepted.
The Buenos Aires-born forward has caught the eye since his arrival in Europe, helping Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in 2022-23, and last season’s KNVB Cup under new Liverpool manager Arne Slot. Apparently, the Liverpool manager has been keeping tabs on his former player with regard to a move to Anfield, but Forest are the club most likely to agree a transfer deal.
An impressive 23 goals in 30 league games last season was an improvement on the previous season’s 15 goals in 32 games, and already this season Gimenez has bagged two goals in two.
Forest are looking for a new forward before the transfer window closes, and are confident that an agreement can be reached.
