- However VAR intervened and ruled the goal off due to a bizarre offside call
- Joshua Zirkzee was the unfortunate player which the call went against
Alejandro Garnacho thought he had put Manchester United in front after slotting home a seamless forward move by the Red Devils to put them 2-1 up against Brighton.
But unfortunately Joshua Zirkzee found himself in the wrong place at the right time to get in the way of the shots trajectory and record one of the wildest offside calls ever witnessed.
Erik ten Hags men broke on the counter with Bruno Fernandes giving the ball to United’s first half scorer Amad Diallo, who in turn drives up the pitch before returning the ball to his captain.
Fernandes then whips a ball across the the box, which misses Joshua Zirkzee but falls nicely for Garnacho who hits a whizzing ball towards goal.
With the ball ending up in the back of the net but to the dismay of Manchester United players and fans VAR intervened to tell a different story. Before Garnacho shot on goal finds the back of the net, the ball hits off the Zirkzee and deflects into the back of the net.
Garnacho thought he had given Manchester United the lead against Brighton
However Zirkzee who was found to get the final touch was in an offside position
VAR intervened and ruled the goal out due to Zirkzee being offside
However during the wild celebrations VAR stepped in to reveal that the ball had actually gone in with a touch from Joshua Zirkzee.
After VAR took a look at the repeats they ruled that Zirkzee was offside so the goal was disallowed.
