Bayern Munich can be something of a circus. Moles, leaks, sensational tabloid reports…sometimes a coach finds out he has been sacked through the media.
But Vincent Kompany is trying to turn a new leaf.
The 38-year-old stressed the importance of open lines of communication internally and maintaining trust within the team.
“We always communicate honestly, directly and clearly with the players. [Sporting director Christoph Freund], [executive board member for sport Max Eberl] and I do that together. It’s important that the players know what’s going on and not the people on the outside,” Kompany had declared in a preseason press conference (as captured via @iMiaSanMia).
Is that going to stop the constant stream of media reports purporting to lay out the details of Bayern’s internal strategy? Probably not. But trust is hard to cultivate and this is one step on the long road to building it.
