Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is really looking forward to making his Bundesliga homefield debut against SC Freiburg on Sunday.
“Finally a game in Allianz Arena. I feel like I’ve been here forever, but we haven’t even played there yet. I think the new players are looking forward to it just as much. We want to play a good game for the fans, too,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “The more you analyze a team, the more you understand the club. It’s impressive. The team has a clear identity. The club acts in a very clear way and has been in the Bundesliga for a long time. It’s really impressive as a model. It’s a difficult game for us. But our goal at home at the Allianz Arena is always clear.
“We’re close to having everyone available. But I don’t want to apply too much pressure and rush anyone back. We’ve not got that many worries. I hope we’ll have everyone available soon.”
When asked whether or not there would be changes on the backline, Kompany did not commit to anything — even with an uncertain injury situation surrounding Kim Min-jae.
“We observe everything, go into details to find solutions and form a perfect image. We performed very well in the first half in Wolfsburg and then lost the momentum just after half-time. That often happens through mistakes. But we fought and kept going. The mentality was good. We need to solve things as a team. The line-up is my decision. You can also make decisions for a player and not against a player,” said Kompany.
Kompany is also hoping that Michael Olise can settle in and really show fans his talent.
“He’s a guy with a lot of confidence. He’s integrated very quickly. Hopefully he’ll show in the coming weeks how good he is. He’ll be an important player for us. He needs to show it and earn it,” said Kompany.
Of course, the team will take a break for international play following the SC Freiburg match. Kompany thinks that it could be a good thing.
“The break comes in a situation where we can analyse things that we’ve worked on so far. Then we’ll plan the next phase. I like having a good mix. Players like Thomas Müller or Manuel Neuer will get a break to recover. Then there’s also players who need to work on fitness. That’s how it’ll be in the international break,” Kompany said.
