Bayern Munich loanee Paul Wanner is exploding for Heidenheim so far this season and the pressure might be getting to the DFB to call up the 18-year-old to the German national team.
Wanner is able to play for either Germany or Austria and the Austrians have put a full court press on the youngster to play for them. Meanwhile, Germany has slow-played their recruitment, but also understands that the attacking midfielder will not wait around forever.
Abendzeitung’s Maximilian Koch (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) captured the latest on the situation:
The DFB is determined to secure Paul Wanner for the German national team. The 18-year old could be called up by Julian Nagelsmann for the first time this season. Wanner has so far rejected all inquiries to play for Austria, including at EURO 2024. The tendency is towards Germany.
The selections for the upcoming international breaks in October and November could be very telling regarding how quickly Germany wants to lock in Wanner.
