Bayern Munich loanee Paul Wanner is tearing up everyone in his path for Heidenheim — and some are wondering when he will get the call to the German national team.
Given his ability to play for both Austria and Germany, some assume that Germany might try to bring him in early just to secure him. While Julian Nagelsmann did not send Wanner an invitation for this round of matches, the coach did not wholly deny that a future call-up is off the table.
“I know him well from his time at FC Bayern. He has developed well. He is doing very well. A player with great potential. He is planned for the future at the DFB. When will he join the senior national team? That’s partly up to him. I told him at Bayern what I wanted from him. Frank [Schmidt] is doing a world-class job with these players in Heidenheim. Paul will do very well. He may then receive another call from me,” said Nagelsmann (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Wanner was actually called into the U-21 side, but declined the invitation.
“I also nominated him. But it was his wish to concentrate fully on staying stable after the intensive preparation. We decided together to leave him at home,” said Germany U-21 boss Antonio Di Salvo (as captured by @iMiaSanMia_GER).
