Daniel Podence penned an emotional farewell on Instagram after sealing a move to Saudi Arabia but failed to mention Wolves in his initial goodbye.
Podence secured a switch from Wolves to Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab for just £5million, where he joins Belgian international Yannick Carrasco and former Southampton defender Wesley Hoedt.
The transfer brought an end to Podence’s four-year stint at Molineux, but curiously he did not make a single mention of the club in his farewell post on Instagram.
Instead, the Portuguese winger paid tribute to Olympiacos, where he spent the 2023-24 season on loan and moved to Wolves from in January 2020.
“Thank you, Olympiacos,” Podence wrote.
“Thank you, Greece! Thank you President [Evangelos] Marinakis! Thank you to each one of you guys who shared the dressing room with me and helped me to get an unbelievable season!
“Thank you to the best fans in the world! From the beginning of last season I was keen to be happy, get my joy back and give it back to the club as much as possible.
“At the same time, I knew it was difficult to do better than my first time there but we did it! That’s what makes it so hard for me to choose a different path now.
“I was living the dream and had to wake up in July to know that football isn’t only about quality and joy. It’s about taking care of your family and future.”
Podence did eventually pen a farewell message to Wolves, albeit 11 hours after his initial post.
“Thank you Wolves for giving me the opportunity to play in the Premier League,” Podence wrote on Instagram.
“It was a crazy experience which gave me the best as a player and human being. Was an honour to play on an always crowded Molineux and having your support everyday, no matter if winning at Old Trafford or losing at home. That’s [what] makes you so special!
“Guys from the team, kitman, physio, kitchen, cleaning, gym all the staffs I have been with… was such a pleasure to be with you in the last four years. All the best.”
Podence ended his Wolves career with 16 goals and nine assists from 108 appearances across all competitions.
His 22-23 campaign was his most prolific, scoring six goals from 32 Premier League matches.
However, Wolves’ league struggles led Podence to seek a move elsewhere as he returned to Olympiacos last season.
The one-cap Portugal international scored 15 goals and registered 13 assists across 47 games and helped lift Olympiacos to its first-ever European trophy as they beat Fiorentina to claim the Europa Conference League.
