Hello everyone! It’s been a while since the last edition of “Thomas Müller’s Monthly Musings”, the last of which was way back in March when Thomas Tuchel was still Bayern Munich coach. I’ve had a lot happen in those six months, but now we’re back! You can read the April to August editions because I’ve compiled a condensed version of those. Today, we’ve got the September edition of the newsletter on tap on a very special day: Müller’s 35th birthday! What better way to celebrate your birth month by setting a record and scoring a goal in that match?
I would never have dreamed of that
Like many of you, I have been an FC Bayern fan with heart and soul since I was a child. The club’s heroes were also my heroes. When I was a little kid, my cousins took me to the south stand. Later, I was a ball boy at the Olympic Stadium. I never dreamed back then that I would one day be able to join the ranks of my idols in record lists. To be able to play for a world-class club like FC Bayern for so many years is an absolute honor for me.
The record-breaking game last Sunday was of course like a picture book. I couldn’t have painted it any better. Deciding the first home game of the season with a great goal felt damn good. That’s exactly how I wanted the ball to be received and the whole situation was really emotional. A really cool thing, but nothing more and nothing less. In my mind, records are a nice thing for later, but at the moment they are more of a stopover.
At this point I would like to thank the many people who have helped me in my career so far. Family, colleagues, coaches, club and of course the fans. No one will be successful alone. Others always have to be there. And I am lucky to have so many great people around me.
A big thank you ❤️
Champions League – New format, new excitement
The new Champions League season is starting soon and I’m just curious about the new format. I can well imagine that the games in this mode will remain really exciting right up until the end. Now you’re fighting for the top 8 and even from 9th to 24th place it’s all about staying in the premier league.
To be honest, I can’t yet give a more precise assessment of the “group draw” for us. Without the usual group constellations, we lack the comparison values from the past. For example, I can’t yet estimate exactly how many points are needed to advance.
With Paris and Barcelona we have two very big names as opponents. Of course, I am particularly looking forward to the match against FC Barcelona and to seeing Hansi Flick again. He is a great person and we have experienced and achieved a lot together. That is what brings us together.
Müller’s health treats – as effective as ever
This year, the performance and health checks were excellent too. I exceeded my own personal bests in several disciplines; I feel fit and capable, but why am I telling you this? Because my performance is not a coincidence, but decades of routine, knowledge and discipline. And I am sure that what works for me can help you too.
Health and nutrition are a complex topic, but I would like to convey two things here:
The basics remain crucial
Even competitive athletes like me, with all the access to experts, medicine or technology, focus primarily on the basics: a combination of sleep, training, supplements and nutrition. Of course, the devil is in the details, but it is important to me to convey that you generally hold all the cards when it comes to your health.
My current focus on nutrition
In terms of nutrition, my focus over the last few years has been to optimize my protein intake and to consume good secondary plant substances and fiber through vegetables, berries and nuts.
I worked on that.
I have been particularly focused on the amount of protein I consume. I am currently trying to consume around 150g of protein per day. Through healthy meals, but also through protein shakes or snacks. That was also the reason for the RDY Protein Meal, which I launched in May together with ESN. The 38g of protein per bottle brings me much closer to my goal.
So, if you want to do something for your health, I recommend focusing on the basics first. I think we all have a pretty good feeling about what is right here. Getting enough sleep and regular exercise are a great start. Add balanced and as fresh ingredients as possible and you’re on a great path.
With this in mind, I wish you an exciting and healthy September.
Thanks for your support and keep your ears open,
your Thomas
