Tottenham tried to sign Dorgu in the latter stages of the transfer window
Tottenham Hotspur’s only noteworthy signing of the summer was Dominic Solanke but that’s not to say that they were dormant over the course of the transfer window. They were monitoring younger options in the market and even signed the likes of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall.
It has emerged that they tried to sign Patrick Dorgu from Lecce in the final stages of the window but such an attempt was shot down by the Serie A giants. As per La Gazzetta, the club wanted to hold onto the left-back for another season but are prepared to listen to offers for him next year.
Dorgu’s asking price is anticipated to be in the range of approximately £30 million and it remains a possibility that his future resolves in January itself with Lecce retaining him on loan for the final six months of 2024/25.
There is interest from within Italy for the Danish international as AC Milan, Juventus and Napoli have all shown willingness in acquiring the 19-year-old. With that said, there is also likely to be interest from England itself for Dorgu, so his price could be far higher than the £30 million Lecce are expecting to receive.
In hindsight, it is a blessing for Tottenham that Dorgu did not join this summer as he can continue his development in Serie A as a regular starter for another year. Moreover, Spurs also have two capable left-backs in Ben Davies and Destiny Udogie for this season.
