Tottenham have ended their pursuit of Alexander Isak after signing Dominic Solanke
Tottenham have had a slow start to the 2024/25 season after winning just one game out of their four so far. The North London club have managed to collect just four points from as many Premier League games of the season, leaving head coach Ange Postecoglou in a spot of bother.
This comes on the back of Spurs enjoying a strong summer transfer window where five fresh faces joined Ange Postecoglou’s squad. Daniel Levy didn’t hesitate to loosen his purse strings and backed Big Ange adequately, with the club smashing their transfer record by signing Dominic Solanke in a £65million deal from Bournemouth.
In Dominic Solanke, Tottenham managed to bring in one of the highly-rated English strikers. He was extremely efficient for Bournemouth last season, netting 19 times in 38 Premier League games.

One of Solanke’s alternatives that Spurs bosses strongly considered was Newcastle United star Alexander Isak. They were embroiled in a transfer battle with bitterest rivals Arsenal for the Swede’s potential swoop.
According to a report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham have now given up on their pursuit of Alexander Isak, apparently giving the Gunners a free run to acquire the Newcastle United striker’s signature. The Lilywhites have arrived at this conclusion after splashing a hefty fee on Solanke, and following the one-cap England international’s capture, they are no longer in the market for a marksman.
Isak has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League. It isn’t only about goals with the 24-year-old; he can link up play, hold the ball up, bring others into the game, run down the channels and create opportunities in the final third. Before the international break, the Sweden international gave a close glimpse of his quality to the Spurs staff by scoring the winner for Newcastle at St James’ Park.
A tally of 36 goals and six assists in 72 games across all competitions is a strong record for a striker who has had his fair share of injury issues with the Magpies. Isak has proven himself in the English top flight and it is unsurprising why top clubs are chasing his signature. Arsenal don’t have a clinical goalscorer like Isak in their ranks, so they are well within their rights to contemplate his acquisition next year.
With a contract until 2028 (Transfermarkt) at St James’ Park, Isak is unlikely to be available on the cheap. Any club keen on the Swede’s signature will need to break the bank. Newcastle are a growing force in the Premier League and will charge a premium to let go of their valuable assets.

Meanwhile, Levy and Postecoglou have placed their trust in Solanke to be the guy that helps Spurs replace Kane in the apex of their attack. While it hasn’t been a sunny start to life for Solanke at N17, the 27-year-old must continue working hard and goals will certainly start flowing for him sooner rather than later.
