Bayern Munich shocked the world with an unprecedented nine-goal performance in the Champions League win over Dinamo Zagreb. There has been much speculation regarding how the bigger clubs like Bayern, Manchester City, and Real Madrid might approach the new league phase format. Bayern clearly plans to annihilate every opponent in its path.
After the match (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich CEO said, “I’m pleased that we played a good game and got off to such a good start. When we conceded two goals, I got a little nervous in the stands, but in the end, the joy prevailed. Today was exceptional. I hope the win will put us first in the table in the new league format. We all have to get used to the new format, of course, but the goal difference is certainly important. It’s noticeable that we have good energy and you can also tell from those who aren’t playing that they support the team and that we have a good atmosphere overall.”
Winning by seven goals is probably overkill, but if that eventually gives Bayern a slightly better seeding in the knockout rounds then it will be considered worthwhile.
