Bayern Munich’s talented teenage attacker Mathys Tel looks like he could be facing an uphill climb for minutes in Bavaria this season under head coach Vincent Kompany.
That has reportedly re-opened the possibility of a short-term move away in one of the upcoming transfer windows, in search of more playing time — according to a report from Sport Bild, captured via @iMiaSanMia:
A loan move either in January or next summer could be an option for Mathys Tel if he doesn’t recommend himself for more minutes through performances in the coming months. This summer, both the club and the player consciously decided to stay in Munich after the contract extension until 2029. But a substitute role is not enough for Tel’s ambitions and also for the development that Bayern are hoping for from him. As seen in the case of Paul Wanner, whose development is going in the right direction following his loan to Heidenheim [@BILD]
BFW Analysis
It would be…risky.
A loan is half a step out the door. Both player and club could move on and decide there’s greater comfort where they are at than reunited.
But a goal-hungry player of Tel’s caliber needs to play and play regularly.
Then again the season’s only just begun. Tel has plenty of time to rewrite this narrative — wherever it has come from. Note that the language in the report is speculative: it does not say that Tel or anyone in his camp has come to view things in a different light already.
