Former Bayern Munich prospect Mitchell Weiser has had a solid career in the Bundesliga as he has played in Germany’s top flight while wearing the kits of Bayern Munich, Hertha Berlin, Bayer Leverkusen, and Werder Bremen.
Now at 30-years-old, the veteran is seeking to help Die Werderaner attempt to pull off the unthinkable — knocking off Bayern Munich. Werder Bremen is riding high after taking down Mainz 05 last weekend.
Weiser and his mates did knock off Bayern Munich last January and are seeking to do it again.
“There’s definitely a possibility of a repeat, but Saturday will be a different game and we will need to prove ourselves again. It will be a tough game. Bayern are always a dangerous side, regardless of who is on the pitch for them — what happened last season is in the past,” Weiser told Werder.de. “Regardless of the number of goals they’ve scored, we need to maintain the quality that we’ve shown — we can only do that as a team, by remaining compact and making the most of our opportunities. I think that we will be able to do that and to show that on the pitch.”
Weiser also stated that last weekend’s win over Mainz 05 could be the catalyst for more good things to come.
“The win definitely gives us confidence, especially having achieved it with only ten men on the pitch. However, it doesn’t surprise me at all, because I always believe in us,” he said. “We stuck together and fought hard, even when we didn’t have the ball. That’s exactly what we need in every game, starting with this Saturday,” said Weiser.
