Reguilon remains out of Tottenham’s plans
Tottenham Hotspur beat Coventry City 2-1 in their Carabao Cup third round fixture midweek with an inspirational comeback in the second half. Coventry giving them a tough time in the game was not the only surprising factor, with Sergio Reguilon’s inclusion in the squad also raising several eyebrows.
The Spaniard has been frozen out by Ange Postecoglou since pre-season but made an appearance on the bench against Coventry, although he did not play any minutes.
Give Me Sport has claimed that despite the left back’s inclusion in the squad for the EFL Cup game, there is practically no chance of him re-entering Postecolgou’s or Tottenham’s plans for the remainder of this season with an exit firmly on the cards next summer.
It is surprising but also unfortunate that Reguilon’s career has come to a crash at Tottenham in spite of loan spells at Atletico Madrid and Manchester United. The former Real Madrid defender had a lot of potential but it looks like the die has been cast on his future in north London, at least.
Reguilon had the opportunity to leave the club even after Deadline Day with the transfer windows staying open in Greece and Turkey for a couple of more weeks, however, he decided against a move to either Eastern European country amid hopes to rekindling his career at Tottenham.
Destiny Udogie, however, has performed admirably in the last year or so under Postecoglou while Ben Davies is a long-time servant at Spurs and has his manager’s trust to hold the fort as the back-up left back ahead of Reguilon.
The 27-year-old is in the final year of his contract at Hotspur Way and can agree to a pre-contract for his next transfer from January 2025.

It also remains to be seen whether he is open to leaving the club in the winter to regain minutes elsewhere in the second half of the campaign, or is more inclined towards running down his contract in England itself.
