Joshua Kimmich has played in the heart of Bayern Munich’s midfield, making the switch from right-back, for the past 4-5 years. In the twilight of Thomas Tuchel’s era, Kimmich was “bullied” into playing in his old position. The 29-year-old also primarily plays in this position for the German national football team, and Bayern coach Vincent Kompany doesn’t want to make a lot of fuss over it.
“What happens with the national team has no influence on my work,” Kompany said (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “One of his strengths is that he can play several positions, even within one game. That’s why it’s not a problem, but a solution, and he himself said that it doesn’t bother him”.
If Kimmich has already reiterated several times that he doesn’t mind where he’s being played, there’s really no point in bringing up this discussion a lot. Props to Kompany for being direct with his answer and shutting down these frankly pointless and repetitive topics.
