Renato Veiga has opened up on what he loves about the Premier League after joining Chelsea this summer from Swiss side FC Basel.
Veiga’s move to Chelsea came as a surprise and seemingly appeared out of nowhere, with very little media coverage of a potential move until it was virtually a done deal.
The 21-year-old cost Chelsea around £12m and is very much a utility man given he can play at both left back and centre back and in midfield, although Chelsea primarily see him as a left back who will invert into midfield.
Veiga opens up on what he loves about the Premier League
Veiga has impressed in his few appearances for the Blues and had his first Premier League start in the recent win against Bournemouth, whilst he also played the full 90 minutes in both legs of the Europa Conference League tie against Servette.
For Veiga there’s a lot to take in and adapt to having only spent one season at Basel, but the Blues clearly believe in him and feel he’s a talented player who can bring a lot to the squad and cover multiple positions.
The Portugal under-20 international may have only just arrived in the Premier League but he’s already detailed what he loves about it.
“I’m just trying to enjoy every moment, I always loved the Premier League,” he told Chelsea’s website.
“It was the only league I truly watched every game from. I could watch the last placed team playing against the next to last team and it was always exciting for me.
“I love the environment inside the stadiums and how much it means to the fans. For us players, knowing how much it means to them gives us an extra boost. It’s just nice to play in those environments.”
Tuesday evening’s Carabao Cup tie against League Two side Barrow is likely to give Veiga another opportunity to show what he’s capable of.
