Chelsea haven’t won the Premier League since 2017 and Enzo Maresca believes the Blues must do two things in order to catch up with Manchester City.
Since Chelsea last won the league under Antonio Conte, City have lifted the trophy on a ridiculous six occasions and are looking to win it for the fifth time in a row this season.
The aim for Chelsea under the new ownership is to get back to winning Premier League titles, but the reality is the club are still a long way from doing that.
Maresca on what Chelsea must do to catch Man City
Despite investing heavily and revamping the squad completely the Blues have struggled on the pitch over the last two seasons and are still waiting for their first trophy under the new ownership.
Chelsea haven’t won a domestic trophy since 2017 and lost last season’s Carabao Cup final to Liverpool, although they did return to European football with a top six finish.
The Europa Conference League represents as good a chance as any for Maresca to get his hands on a trophy in his first season in charge.
Whilst picking up trophies is great and something Chelsea should be doing, ultimately the club need to get back to challenging and winning the title.
City are very much the side to beat whilst Arsenal have turned themselves in title contenders over the last few years and Maresca has detailed two things Chelsea need to do in order to catch City and Arsenal.
“I said that we are ahead of where we expected to be today, not in terms of results but in terms of the way the team are progressing and the way the team are playing,” he told reporters.
“In terms of results, I still think that we are far from this kind of teams, like City and Arsenal because we need to learn many, many things and we need to improve many things; attacking better, defending better.”
