Christopher Nkunku has stated Chelsea need to stay focused and keep working hard following Tuesday evening’s win against Barrow in the Carabao Cup.
Enzo Maresca made 11 changes to the side that beat West Ham last weekend and the Blues put in a convincing performance as they cantered to a 5-0 win.
Nkunku made the most of his opportunity as he scored a well taken hat-trick, whilst Pedro Neto also opened his scoring account for the club.
Nkunku on what Chelsea need to do
The France international sent a message to Maresca with his performance and he will be hoping he’s done enough to force his way into the team for Saturday’s game against Brighton.
Nkunku now has six goals in all competitions this season and is arguably the best finisher at the club, but so far Maresca has preferred to go with Nicolas Jackson through the middle, who has four goals and two assists from the first five Premier League games.
It’s a long season with many games ahead and Nkunku will get multiple opportunities to start games and make an impact.
Speaking after the game against Barrow the 26-year-old explained what he feels Chelsea need to do moving forward.
“We have a good squad with a lot of talent, we need to be focused and to work hard, it’s not only talent the season is long with tough games, so everybody needs to be focused,” he told Chelsea’s website.
“We are all in competition. The most important thing is to be united and go in the same way. That’s what we try to do. This is how the team will work this season.”
“We are young. We have a new coach. We are still learning his way to play. It’s a process. We need to be focused. Now all our eyes are on Brighton. We have two days to prepare to win because this is the main goal.
“Last year, it wasn’t the same. We didn’t start the season like this. Now we just want to enjoy it and continue like this, to make our fans happy.”
