Bayern Munich’s stranglehold on the league trophy may have been snapped after 11 straight years, but that won’t mean they will let it stay that way. With challengers in Bayer Leverkusen, Stuttgart, Leipzig, and a revitalized Borussia Dortmund, things are heating up.
“I have respect for the competition,” Max Eberl said (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “You should always have that as an athlete. We have competitors like Leverkusen, Dortmund and Leipzig, who have always reached the Champions League in recent years. I think the Bundesliga has become very exciting. We are motivated and want to bring the trophy back to Munich”.
Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen side finally lost after just over a year of not losing a single league match, and Stuttgart lost some key players. Leipzig is still a team to be wary of, while Dortmund is starting to look like a serious club. In the meantime, Bayern are top after three games played.
