Sky Sports pundit Dean Ashton has made a huge claim about Cole Palmer which many Chelsea fans will likely think is over the top.
Palmer has been nothing short of a revelation following his move from Manchester City last summer and in a short space of time he’s established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League.
In his debut campaign for the Blues he scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists, which saw him named Premier League Young Player of the Year, and he’s started this season in brilliant form.
Palmer better than Hazard
Palmer has six goals and four assists from the first six games of the season and only Erling Haaland has scored more goals than him so far.
HIs four goals against Brighton was the second time in his Chelsea career he’s scored four in a game after doing so against Everton last season and he became the first player in Premier League history to score four in the first half of a game.
Palmer has rightfully been receiving plaudits for his performances and as is always the case he get’s compared to to other players and there’s been discussion about whether he’s better than Chelsea legend Eden Hazard.
Sky pundit and former Premier League striker Ashton was asked this very question and whilst acknowledging it was a tough question he believes the 22-year-old is already better than Hazard.
“That’s not a nice question for a Monday! But I think he is. I think he is and will be. I think he already is and I think he will be,” he told Sky Sports.
“To be doing the things already and on a consistent basis, this isn’t the first game where we’ve gone and wowed about Cole Palmer.”
Personally it’s far to early to be making these sorts of comparisons and whilst Palmer has been unbelievable he’s stilll got a long way to go to match or even better what Hazard achieved for the club.
The 33-year-old made 352 appearances for the Blues and scored 110 goals as well as helping them win European trophies and Premier League titles, and whilst Palmer isn’t at that level yet he’s certainly on the right path.
