The last time Bayern Munich faced an Unai Emery team with “Villa” in the name, it didn’t go so well. That’s why Vincent Kompany cannot afford to underestimate his next opponent in the UEFA Champions League. Beating Dinamo Zagreb at home 9-2 was an incredible start, but an away game against a team in top 6 of the English Premier League is a whole different equation.
Complicating matters is the situation surrounding Harry Kane. Will he be fit to play? If he isn’t, who can take his place?
Team news
Kane took part in the final team training before the squad flew out to England. He has been included in Bayern’s matchday squad, so you can assume he’ll play if he is fit. If he isn’t, then there are no other true strikers on the team to replace what he can do. The closest you’ll get is either Thomas Müller or Mathys Tel, neither of whom have started in a very long time.
As for the others, Daniel Peretz, Josip Stanišić, Sacha Boey, and Hiroki Ito all remain sidelined. With the current situation in mind, Kompany will likely opt for very few changes in his lineup, fielding an almost identical starting XI to the one that started against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday:
