The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge has not been the best for the last couple of years. Can you blame them? The football has been inconsistent at best, and terrible at worst. Fan favourite players are being sold, and new faces brought in at such a rate that nobody has really had time to build any connection with them.
But last night it was rocking for the first European group game in a while, and after the game Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall admitted he was “taken aback” by it.
“I was like wow… it felt like a proper European night.”
He explained how it had inspired him and his teammates to a really good performance. Even the second string looked motivated and excited to be there, and they put away 4 nice goals once they got into gear.
You can see the midfielder speaking in the clip embedded here, with these comments coming after 3 minutes and 30 seconds:
We really hope that this is the start of a new wave of enthusiasm at the Bridge. It’s such a feedback loop where good performances inspire good atmospheres, which inspire good performances.
The crowd are ready, they’re just waiting for games which get them on their feet – keep that up, and everything will be rosy again. The momentum is only building, and just at the right time, with some huge games against our rivals at the top of the table to come in the next few weeks.
It was a particularly special night for KDH, who has struggled for minutes in the team, and may have been having second thoughts about leaving Leicester where he was a key player. Last night will have been a big reminder of exactly why he did make that switch. He got his first Chelsea goal, a huge reaction from the crowd and his manager.
